Cassa 19: Corasol's Hidden Gem For Foodies

Previously called "Grand Coral", Corasol is an exclusive and luxurious golf and beach community with an ensemble of upscale private communities, brand new beachfront condo and villa projects, beach clubs, and a splendid 18-hole golf course designed by pro golfer Nick Price that features gorgeous ocean views. The club house, of course, offers its golf members a lovely restaurant for snacks and drinks, but we were recently invited to discover and experience a fairly new foodies hidden gem in the heart of Corasol, that's open to the grand public, and we couldn't wait to tell you all about it!

Cassa 19 is located right at the end of the 18th hole and offers a beautiful exterior seating area facing the golf course and lush green scenery. There is also an interior dining area with AC, for hotter days. Owners of Cassa 19 are not newbies in the culinary scene. They also own a wonderful and successful restaurant called Cassa Ceviche, and most recently opened the Gourmet Park, a food truck park that nests different amazing tiny food trucks. Both projects are located in Colonia Hollywood, one of the coolest areas of Playa del Carmen.

Cassa 19 is a unique venue, tranquil and peaceful, in the middle of a golf course. It is a perfect spot to take a break from Playa del Carmen's vibrant downtown area. Of course, if we are presenting you with this article, it is because we fell in love with its food, its concept, and the talent of its chef and owners.

Alan Figueroa is a young and very talented Argentinian chef. The passion he has for food is more than noticeable in every single dish, and his training and professionalism certainly shows in the creation of their unique menu. Here's a glimpse of what Michel, the owner and chef Alan had prepared for our delight:

We started off with what I would describe as the best croquettes I’ve ever had!! I had never really been a fan of croquettes, until I tried those ones, and I must say, I have been craving them ever since!

(Ossobuco Croquettes: 5 ossobuco beef croquettes, dipped in tartar sauce)

The second course was another delight, which I think our vegan and vegetarian readers will LOVE! It was very interesting (in a very good way!) mix of flavors and textures, presented on hand made blue corn tortillas.

(Garlic/Pepper Flap Mushroom Tacos: 3 tacos served in artisanal tortilla with broken seeds and epazote, accompanied by refried beans and avocado)

Another favorite for our vegetarian friends was this unique tasteful and colorful risotto that looked like an art piece and tasted like heaven!

(Risotto Gino: Carnaroli rice with creamy carrot, orange and ginger, topped with kale, blue cheese, pumpkin seeds and red onions)

The fourth course was an anthem to us, carnivores: Bone Marrow. Literally a melt-in-your-mouth kind of dish, served over a real hot log!

(1 piece of roasted bone marrow with artisanal blue corn tortillas smoked over a hot log, with dried pepper salt)

And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we were served a delicious and perfectly cooked octopus, one of our favorite local seafood dishes!

(Octopus on fermented flap mushroom’s aguachile: 120 g of roasted octopus served in fermented flap mushrooms and chile de arbol)

Finally, for our last course of this fantastic 6 course lunch menu, we were spoiled with their famous fresh fish ceviche with leche de tigre! We had seen this dish in photos on their social media pages, and we were not disappointed!

We are thankful to Michel and his team for inviting us to their incredible hidden gem and foodie’s dream spot. We cannot wait to not only go back, but to bring friends, and make them discover this new culinary experience, in the middle of a beautiful golf course of the Mexican Caribbean! Who would have thought a place like this existed so close to home! A little bird told us that they might even start doing events, such as wine pairing and wine tasting events at their venue…. so, stay tuned!
