ESCUELA DIGNA: PROMOTING LITERACY AND EDUCATION IN PROPER SCHOOL FACILITIES

In more than 34,000 clubs worldwide, Rotary Club members volunteer in communities at home and abroad to support education and job training, provide clean water, combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, and eradicate polio.

Rotary Club International

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

Rotary's 1.2 million members believe it starts with a commitment to Service Above Self.

The Club Cancún Zona Hotelera, associated with tthe D-4200 Rotary International in adherence to this commitment to Service Above Self, are looking to provide funds to a local grade school in Cancun´s rural zone. The Project is called, "Escuela Digna" its purpose is to locate schools in need of external fundraising so they can address basic needs and provide dignified, operational and adequate facilities to foster learning.

Primaria Laura Aguirre

The Tres Reyes community is a low-income area in the outskirts of Cancun, Quintna Roo. The local grade school, "Primaria Laura Aguirre" is lacking electricity and proper wiring installation, basic amenities such as clean drinking water and a permanent roof over the main school ground. Although the school lacks many amenities, it has twice been awarded first place in knowledge competitions held by state educational authorities and has been acknowledged for its outstanding school ground maintenance.

The Project, "Escuela Digna" will benefit more than 400 students between the ages of 7 and 12. The promotion of literacy and education in proper school facilities is central for the area's development and advancement for generations to come.

The Rotary Club Cancún Zona Hotelera has made the commitment to sponsor this community school. The funds raised will pay for the workmanship needed to install electricity, provide a water purifying plant and to build a roof over the main schoolyard. The club will also mentor school authorities and the parent-teacher association about health risks and complications related to drinking unfiltered water.
